The sausage and egg muffin beats bacon and egg every time, here’s why
The sausage and egg muffin is finally having its moment and coming out from under the bacon and egg muffin’s shadow. Tell us which muffin you prefer in our special reader poll.
There’s no denying the bacon and egg roll is an Australian icon.
Every cafe in the country has its own version, which typically includes bacon and eggs, with a squirt of tomato or barbecue sauce, between two slices of bread.
There’s a reason it’s such a popular hangover snack – because you’ve got to be a bit out of it to order one.
Those in their right minds know that sausage and egg is the superior choice and deserves far better than to live in bacon and egg’s shadow.
Here are eight reasons why we’d rather snag a sausage and egg muffin.
1. More Stability
Long rashers of bacon have no place on a round muffin. Too often, a strip will slip out the side, threatening to destabilise the entire stack. Cue the sauce spillage. You don’t need to be an engineer to know that a circular sausage patty just makes sense.
2. Better ratios
Sorry, but a single eye of bacon cannot stand up to all that starchy bread. A thick slab of sausage offers a better bread-to-burger ratio and more balance in every bite.
3. Extra flavour
Compared to bacon, a sausage patty has a much more interesting flavour profile. The addition of herbs and spices adds flavour and intrigue – it’s the connoisseur’s choice.
4. Melted cheese
Cheese will actually melt over a hot sausage patty, adding a soft, creamy texture that is much more appealing.
5. Consistency
Your bacon could come soft, pink and flabby or charred to a burnt crisp. Sausage is by far the more reliable choice.
6. More satisfying
A sausage patty contains more meat, making it a more filling and satisfying meal. Not to mention, better value too.
7. Ultimate comfort
Hungover? When you’re feeling fragile all you want is something soft and comforting to eat – like a resistance-free sausage patty.
8. Worth it
While anyone can cook bacon and eggs, making a sausage patty from scratch is harder to do at home. If you’re going to pay for breakfast, it may as well be something you can’t cook yourself.
