Recreate King Charles’ coronation quiche at home

The King’s coronation might be over but the recipe for the controversial coronation quiche lives on — for any time of the year.

Impossible quiche

King Charles III’s official coronation dish causing some serious controversy online.

While the late Queen Elizabeth II opted for coronation chicken as the main star of her celebratory feast, Charles and Camilla decided on a quiche to be served at the Coronation Big Lunches.

It seems like some people aren’t the biggest fans of this dish, with many considering it quite underwhelming.

But taste.com.au recreated the coronation dish (in mini form), and can confirm that it’s totally underrated.

Why King Charles' 'coronation quiche' has caused a stir?

In true taste.com.au style, we’ve included a few timesaving shortcuts AND we’ve made them miniature – because everything is better in bite-sized form.

But what really is it about quiche that we truly love? Well, here are just a few of the reasons why it’s always worthy of a crown, to us:

FULL RECIPE: MINI CORONATION QUICHES

They’re super easy to make

Quiches, in their simplest form, are made with a shortcrust pastry base, and a savoury egg custard filling, which comprises milk, eggs and occasionally cream.

So, they’re actually quite easy to make, which is one of the reasons why we love them so much. Sometimes, you can cut even more corners and scrap the crust all together, and just bake the egg custard filling to create a crustless quiche.

The pumpkin and spinach crustless quiche is one of our faves.

They’re bang on trend

We’ve seen a huge interest in quiches throughout 2023 (yes, even before the Royal Family made their announcement).

At the start of the year, our healthy salmon quiche recipe went viral on Facebook, while our impossible quiche has worked its way up the ranks over the last few months to become a top 10 recipe on site.

Searches for quiches are actually up a whopping 2003% year-on-year, while other quiche-like savoury slices (hello, ever-faithful zucchini slice!) also now top our most popular recipes on site and social every single month.

Quiches are a budget-friendly dream

If you can’t tell already, we love our quiches. But one of the main reasons why is because they’re a great meal if you’re trying to cut costs. For example, our mini coronation quiches cost $11.80 in total to make … that’s under $1 per serve.

They’re also a great way to use up any leftover veggies in your fridge; whether it be broccoli, capsicum or even asparagus.
