How to recreate Sizzler’s famous cheese toast in an air fryer

Sizzler may have shut down all its restaurants in Australia by 2020 but the memory of its popular cheese bread lives on.

For those who remember the all-you-can-eat restaurant chain Sizzler, there is one thing on the menu that people still miss after they shut their final store in 2020 — the cheese toast.

Ever since, diners have been craving their ridiculously addictive cheese bread, so there was only one solution: setting our foodies the task of recreating it. Which they did. IN AN AIR FRYER.

Taste.com.au food editor Alison Adams was the legend who took on the challenge.

She discovered that there were two secrets to the iconic side dish: super-thick, super-soft white bread and a paste made from a combination of margarine and cheese.

It looks just like the original — and tastes just like it too. In fact, because it’s cooked in the air fryer it’s even crispier on the outside.

Alison says it was a cinch to make.

“The softness of the margarine meant that it was easy to combine with the cheese,” she reveals.

“It turned out crispy, cheesy and slightly salty … And with no frying pan to wash up.”
