How to make edible slime: taste.com.au reveals best recipes
Made with a few simple ingredients, kids (and adults) can get creative with a basic slime recipe which is not only edible but actually tastes good.
Slime, once relegated to stuff you just fling at siblings when they get on your nerves, is now edible, and Taste is taking a bite out of the trend to break down what you need to know.
What is edible slime?
Made with marshmallows, coconut oil and cornflour, edible slime is safe for kids (and, ahem, adults) to eat and tastes sweet and tropical.
You can decorate it with lollies, and make fabulous themes – in this case we’ve made a monster slime, a mermaid slime, a gummy bear slime and a unicorn slime. You can’t go wrong with one of those four.
How do you make edible slime?
Well, so glad that you asked, because while the eating is a highlight, the simple pulling, kneading and decorating that goes into making this novelty recipe are also great fun.
In this case, the journey is as enjoyable as the destination.
Essentially you mix coconut oil and marshmallow in a bowl, microwave until the consistency is pull-y and, well, gloopy.
Then you add some food colouring, let it sit for a while, follow up with a good kneading and when in the shape you’re after add all sorts of wondrous things – icing eyeballs, edible moustaches, sprinkles, icing unicorns.
You name it, you add it.
Give me some edible slime recipes please
We hear you – give us the specifics, please. Well here are a few options for you.
Who doesn’t love a bit of green goop. Slime never goes out of fashion and green ghoul things don’t either. Whether you want to save this one for Halloween, or you’re keen to make an activity of it this weekend, we’re pretty certain the kids will be on board.
Under the sea, life is good. This baby blue version will delight everyone. Mixed in with some traditional white marshmallow mixture to make an almost tie-dye appearance, this recipe features sprinkles and stars. Cute as.
Studded with springy, colourful gummy bears, this version is bright and upbeat. The addition of gummies at the end gives that great textured look – and taste. Just try not to eat all the gummies as you’re creating your masterpiece ….
Pink and white slime picture comes together in this twirling, pretty version. Adorned with rainbows and unicorns, it’s a little taste of magic. That is, until you eat it all. 2,4,6,8.
