How to bake Taylor Swift’s sugar cookies

Taylor Swift is a woman of many talents and being a chart-topper is just one of them. But we’re into food more than music – and it turns out her baking ability is (almost) as good as her singing one.

Over the years, Taylor Swift has proven that she’s an avid baker, posting her creations on social media – ranging from choc-chip cookies to whoopie pies.

She’s also been more than happy to share the baking love by inviting lucky fans over to her house for a cookie baking and 1989 listening party. Plus, she’s reportedly been baking homemade cinnamon scrolls for her new beau, NFL player Travis Kelce and his teammates.

Despite having a hectic schedule, the singer clearly knows a thing or two about baking.

Taylor Swift’s chai sugar cookies

I was scrolling through TikTok recently and was inundated with videos of Swifties baking Taylor’s chai sugar cookies (originally a 2009 Joy the Baker recipe that the singer put her own twist on).

The recipe promised that the warm and spicy flavours of chai would blend beautifully with the sweet sugar of the cookies. Watching people on my FYP making soft, warm cookies and pouring a smooth, sugary mixture on top had me instantly convinced that the taste.com.au team had to try these cookies.

Because Christmas was fast approaching, we’d all started drooling over the big feasts we had coming up, and planning what dish we were going to contribute. At taste.com.au, we range from expert bakers to novice bakers (and with me fitting squarely under the latter), I had already been thinking about what quick and easy festive treat to bake for my family.

We tried Taylor Swift’s cookie recipe, but put our own taste spin on it, and we think we’ve landed on the perfect cookie.

The ultimate cookie (inspired by Taylor Swift)

A sweet and buttery cookie, with a shortbread-like texture, and a mild chai flavour. Think a chai latte in a cookie.

Baking these cookies is the perfect way to spread some joy and kill some time before Taylor’s Eras Tour which kicks off in February.
