It’s always difficult to figure out what you want to cook for breakfast, lunch or dinner but this year, taste.com.au has discovered and created scores of new recipes.
From Matt Preston’s slow cooker beef a la mode, to a lemon meltaway cake that you’ll never quite get over, here are a few of the top new recipes as rated by Taste readers so far in 2023.
In this slow cooker French onion beef recipe, chuck steak is slowly cooked in red wine, with sweet carrots, fresh thyme and, of course, the flavour bomb that is French onion soup mix. Make a double batch and store in the freezer.
One-pan cheesy beef taco rice bake
Are you looking for a low-budget one-pan dinner winner? Well, this delicious excuse to get away with less washing up is the hearty meal for you. It can feed a family or make a great meal-prep option as well.
Cheesy potato crust quiche nests
You’ll just love the crispy texture that baked cheese adds to the potato cups – it is the perfect match for the soft egg, ham and shallot filling. These quiche nests take those familiar quiche flavours and just amplify them.
Wondering why this lemon cake recipe is called ‘meltaway’? Well, it’s the only way to describe the heavenly sensation of the moist, buttery cake melting away in your mouth – you really do have to try it for yourself.
Who needs takeout when it takes just 10 minutes to prepare this slow cooker Korean beef? Simply get all your ingredients together and let the slow cooker work its magic. The beef melts in your mouth with every bite thanks to the sweet and savoury flavours of the bulgogi sauce (which can be found in the Asian section of the supermarket), onion, garlic and ginger.
Matt Preston’s slow cooker beef a la mode
Indulge in the rich and savoury flavours of this slow cooker twist on a classic beef a la mode. The dish combines tender beef, aromatic herbs, and a medley of vegetables that bubble away in a delicious, red-wined based broth in the slow cooker.
Slow cooker pulled Mongolian lamb
With this pulled Mongolian lamb, if you haven’t understood the hype around them before, you absolutely will now. All those spices add together to create a deliciously complex flavour profile.
One-dish cheesy French onion pasta bake
This dish has those familiar, caramelised flavours that we all adore, which are soaked up by the elbows pasta for a twist on mac and cheese that we think tastes just like Smith’s Cheese & Onion chips.
Quiche Lorraine and potato bake are two of my all time favourite foods. So, why not combine the two for a match made in heaven? The creamy egg mixture is delectable on its own but when paired with the salty bits of bacon there’s an explosion of flavour that the soft potatoes soak up.
Mediterranean hasselback chicken
We can’t get enough of hasselback potato (the technique of cutting small slits into the top) so we thought we’d try it out with chicken and fill it with some classic Mediterranean ingredients and flavours. While it looks and taste incredible, it’s actually super simple to make – you only need 6 ingredients and 20 minutes prep.
We all know that apple and custard are a match made in heaven and this recipe is such a simple way to achieve that gorgeous, sweet flavour. Add cinnamon and a butter cake to the mix and the end result will be a dessert that has everyone asking for seconds, and maybe even thirds.
Everyone loves the cheesy and creamy sauces that we find in so many of our comfort foods. However, so often we end up feeling a little sick after we overindulge in our favourite dishes. While this cheesy bake may feel indulgent, it actually has a healthy twist.
These Anzac cream cups create the perfect mix of flavour with their sweet cream dollops and the crumbly, buttery biscuit cups. Anzac biscuits are an Australian favourite and these 5-ingredient winners make a great finger food dessert for parties.
These dumplings are packed with sweet, citrusy flavours, which just explode with the addition of the lemon syrup sauce. Dust them with some extra lemon rind to add a burst of freshness.
The best-ever pumpkin all soup boils down to the flavour boosters that simmer away with the veg like pesto, garlic and rosemary. Serve with a slice of super simple air fryer focaccia and top with a parmesan crisp, for a hearty bowl of creamy goodness.
Rissoles are one of our favourite family-friendly dinners, and they’re even better when they’re cooked in our favourite appliance, the air fryer. This canned salmon version is made with leftover mashed potato (or you can buy tubs from the supermarket) and are ready in just under an hour.
For a hearty weeknight meal, you can’t go past this flavour-packed lasagne. Loaded with chicken mince, hidden veggies and classic creamy, bechamel sauce, this winner dinner comes in at under $5 per serve.

It only takes five ingredients and five minutes prep to whip up this easy, creamy spaghetti. Watch as the mascarpone melts into a slurpalicious sauce – it’s pure midweek magic.

Condensed milk pairs so perfectly with so many different flavours. Whisking together condensed milk and blitzed strawberries got some great results.
All-in-one Italian chicken rice bake
All the good things come together in this tasty bake – chicken, rice, cream, cheese and semi-dried tomatoes for a touch of Tuscan sunshine. The aromatic scent of these Italian flavours will fill your kitchen.
One-pot Calabrian prawn risoni
You only need five ingredients and 30 mines to whip up this Italian-inspired one-pot wonder. The quick and zesty prawns pack a punch and silky morsels of risoni soak up the rich flavours of the roasted garlic pasta sauce.
Crunchy corn fritters with sticky bacon jam
Corn fritters are an awesome way to jazz up simple on-hand ingredients. To save on spices, we’ve used curry powder – adding loads of flavour and a touch of spice.
A no-bake cheesecake slice is hard to beat, especially when it’s inspired by childhood-favourite Life Savers Fruit Tingles. Not only have we topped this creamy cheesecake slice with crunchy and tangy pastel Fruit Tingles but we’ve crushed them and thrown them into the buttery biscuit base for extra zing.
Malaysian lamb and potato curry
Aromatic herbs and spices will waft through your kitchen as this lamb and potato curry cooks until the meat melts in your mouth and the sauce is bursting with flavour. The creamy potatoes soak up the sauce and pair perfectly with the lamb. This mild curry is infused with the taste of Malaysian cuisine and can be enjoyed on its own or with rice.
If you’re a fan of a saucy meatball you’ll love this cheat’s version. All made in one pan, the garlic bread croutons soak up the rich, cheesy tomato sauce, resulting in the ultimate flavour-packed, budget-friendly weeknight meal.
