Make this Milo cake with just 2 ingredients — and a microwave

You’re just a spoonful of Milo, a few tablespoons of milk and a microwave away from the easiest cake hack ever.

2-ingredient Milo mug cake

Whether enjoyed warm, cold, or straight out of the tin, we have no doubt that Milo was as much a part of your youth as it was ours.

In fact, taste.com.au loves the choc-malt powder so much, they’ve found ways to incorporate it into some of its readers’ favourite desserts; like this Milo-studded tart, and even a banana bread.

But apparently the combination of milk and Milo (yep, just two ingredients) can result in way more than a nostalgic and insanely delicious drink; it can actually make a cake.

2-ingredient Milo cake: there’s proof it works

You’re just a spoonful of Milo, a few tablespoons of milk and a microwave away from the easiest cake hack ever.

Our friends at Australia’s Best Recipes shared this insane dessert shortcut on TikTok and our minds were blown when we first saw it.

Apparently all you have to do is mix four tablespoons of Milo with one tablespoon of milk in a tall mug (try not to drink it at this stage) and then microwave it for one minute 30 seconds, checking every 20 seconds. And that’s it.

It becomes a piping hot, gooey and fudgy mug cake.

If you’re feeling a little extra, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top to level it up. So. Easy.

What exactly is Milo?

For all of you non-Aussies out there who haven’t yet tried Milo, but what are you waiting for?!

Anyway, judgment aside, we thought we’d give you a little context into what lives inside that iconic green, cylindrical tin.

We all know it as a sweet, delicious, chocolatey powder but beyond the incredible taste, Milo is actually a malt powder made from four main ingredients: milk powder, malt barley, sugar and cocoa.

It’s actually a rare occurrence for an Aussie pantry to not host at least one tub of these on its shelves.

How are you supposed to enjoy Milo?

We’ll say it once and once only: there’s no such thing as too much Milo. We don’t know about you, but our ratio of Milo to milk was borderline concerning, but the ONLY way to know if it’s perfect is if you’re crunching on malt chunks while drinking.

In terms of using cold or warm milk, there aren’t really any golden rules. At least for us, in the winter we love it piping hot, and in the summer we opt for cold milk all the way. It just depends on the vibe you’re after.

Milo hot chocolate cake

Taking the best parts of a Milo hot choccy, we created a show-stopping layered cake stacked with crunchy Milo clusters, marshmallows, soft sponge and hot chocolate syrup.

To say it looks impressive is an understatement, but its taste?

Let’s just say there’ll be plenty of requests for a second slice.
