How to make 2-minute tiramisu with simple supermarket ingredients
6 ingredients. 2 minutes. 10/10.
What is traditional tiramisu made of?
After I read through the recipe, I was a little sceptical at first. A classic Italian tiramisu usually takes hours to prepare. The soaking, the layering, the setting – it all adds up. And not to mention the process of separating egg whites from egg yolks, combining the coffee mixture and the dipping of sponge finger biscuits.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely worth the time and effort. But I usually reserve making tiramisu for special occasions like at dinner parties or when I’m asked to bring dessert.
Essential ingredients for a speedy tiramisu
While it’s not a full-blown tiramisu (that would be impressive if it could be done in two minutes!), this no-fuss version features all the essential flavours and ingredients to recreate the traditional recipe, making it perfect for a last-minute sweet treat. The secret? A packet of chocolate sponge rolls.
When I made this recipe, one packet of rolls cost me $3.70 at Coles, making it a super easy way to dress up a store-bought cake. Plus, it works out to be actually just $1.75 because you only need three of the rolls!
The recipe also calls for mascarpone, which I had leftover in the fridge from a pasta dish I made earlier in the week, plus thickened cream, condensed milk, coffee liqueur and cocoa powder.
Steps for assembling the perfect tiramisu
I was so surprised to find out there wasn’t much hands-on cooking involved. Aside from breaking out the electric beaters for the mascarpone, condensed milk and cream, the dessert comes together very quickly.
All you have to do is divide the chocolate sponge rolls into two serving glasses, pour over the coffee liqueur, spoon over the cream mixture and repeat before a final dusting of cocoa powder. Since this recipe only used half the rolls, I decided to double the other quantities and made a total of four desserts (because why not?).
And the results? All the rich, luscious flavours of a classic tiramisu in a flash. If you’re ready to try it for yourself, check out our 2-minute tiramisu recipe right here.
