Air fryer chicken rissoles: retro budget dish makes a comeback
With the current cost of living crisis, people are turning to simple, affordable recipes that use minimal ingredients but don’t lack flavour. So this old-style meal has been reborn using the air fryer.
If you’ve suddenly started craving nostalgic rissoles, you’re not alone. These tasty patties, formed from minced meat, are quickly climbing the ranks of the latest food trends with searches increasing month-on-month.
We all know that this Aussie classic was traditionally fried in a pan (or thrown on the barbie), but we’ve found a twist that modernises this retro dish perfectly: the handy air fryer.
Another air fryer recipe here to steal our hearts
Ah, the air fryer … what would we do without it? Air fryers have been widely popular since they burst onto the food appliance scene a few years ago.
In fact, many of our current favourite weeknight dishes are made in the air fryer. They are praised for their efficiency in cooking foods that would otherwise take much longer in the oven or on the stovetop, like our favourite rissoles.
So, why is this nostalgic dish making a comeback? With the current cost of living crisis, people are turning to simple, affordable recipes that use minimal ingredients but don’t lack flavour.
Now, we’ve tried and tested many rissole recipes to see which ones are perfectly moist and seasoned to perfection (not complaining), and our favourite has to be these air fryer chicken rissoles.
What makes them so good?
Well, the air fryer cooks them evenly and leaves that gorgeous, golden brown colouring on the mince. You also get an entire zucchini in the 10 rissoles that it makes.
It’s such a great way to sneak some vegies into the diets of picky eaters. But, even if you’ve still got your doubts, there’s no denying the statistics: it’s our No.2 air fryer recipe on Taste’s site this year and also a top 20 dinner for our users.
What’s more, when taste.com.au posted this recipe to its Facebook page, they received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback.
One commenter said: “These are delish. Have become a firm fave in our house.”
And they’re sure to become one in yours too.
But that’s not all …
