South Australian Dairy Association milk doubles sales in decade
South Australian farmers had a novel way to counter the dollar a litre challenge back in 2013 and now they’re reaping the benefits.
A brand to beat the dollar-a-litre blues has celebrated its decade in supermarket refrigerators with super sales figures.
The South Australian Dairyfarmers’ Association launched the SADA Fresh brand in November 2013 to counter Aldi, Coles and Woolworths dollar-a-litre generic milk brands.
Sales have doubled in the past decade, SADA confirmed, with 2.2 million litres sold last financial year.
SADA president Robert Brokenshire said the organisation received 20 cents per litre, which goes to a special fund for farmers.
He said the milk is bottled on SADA’s behalf by Lactalis at their Clarence Gardens facility in Adelaide, and it is sold throughout SA via Coles supermarkets.
“SADA Fresh has been great for the state’s dairy industry and there’s been a lot of interest in it from interstate,” Mr Brokenshire said.
“We sell it in about 60 Coles supermarkets across South Australia.
“We’ve had a huge amount of support from the public, so we’re looking at options to expand our presence in the coming years.”
