Saputo moves to finalise farmgate step-ups for 2020-21 season
Dairy leaders are warning that the 2021-22 season may contain few step ups but that hasn’t stopped some farmgate movement for last season.
Saputo has confirmed a post-season step up for the 2020-21 financial year — although suppliers will have to wait until October for current season joy.
This week, the Montreal-based processor wrote to south-east Australian suppliers to affirm its weighted average farmgate price at $6.55 per kilogram milk solids for the 2020-21 season, up from $6.50 per kilogram milk solids.
The final step up for 2020-21 is comprised of a four cent per kilogram rise in butterfat and a seven cents per kilogram rise in protein.
Saputo supplier relations director Anthony Cook said: “Looking ahead, our next review of the 2021/22 milk price is scheduled for October and you will receive an update from us then.”
Saputo made its mark on the Australian sector in 2017 when it bought Murray Goulburn for $1.3 billion, after having already purchased Warrnambool Cheese and Butter for more than $500 million in 2014.
