Generation Alpha has brought their A-game to Tatura with a new cohort of Australian farmers taking centre stage at International Dairy Week.
Organisers of the 2024 event have joined with the Cows Create Careers initiative for the first time, staging an array of educational competitions at the six-day event.
IDW director Declan Patten said a record 1150 cattle entries were submitted for the 2024 event, up 200 from last year.
He said more than 250 of the entries were into the youth showmanship categories, highlighting a strong future for the sector.
“It’s really encouraging to see primary and secondary school-aged entries perform really strongly this year,” Mr Patten said.
“Partnering with Cows Create Careers has been fantastic. Some ideas from television have been adapted with a dairy theme. We’ve had a scavenger hunt based on The Amazing Race television program and another called the ‘Moo-in Transfer’ which is our version of The Gruen Transfer.”
IDW continues today with the national Jersey and Holstein shows as well as the Create the Future Sale.
“It’s been a tough few weeks with the floods for a lot of farmers, so it’s great to have this opportunity to take a break and celebrate the dairy industry,” Mr Patten said.
The Tatura extravaganza concludes Thursday with the presentation of the Lex Bunn and Bette Hall memorial awards as well as the naming of interbreed champions.
