A SCRAMBLE to source a specific line of genetics produced the biggest ever single vendor stud result of nearly $4 million near Holbrook last week.

Lambpro, run by the Bull family, sold 903 Primeline Maternal ram lambs for an average of $3913 and 304 Poll Dorset and Tradie rams at an average of $1459 for a gross of $3.977 million.

There was so much interest in the sale that buyer lists were closed before the two day fixture late last week, Lambpro principal Tom Bull said.

“We were fairly confident about the sale because producers have confidence in the Primeline

Maternal program,” Mr Bull said.

“We offered almost 300 rams more than last year and our average was more than $1000 higher than last year.

“We also needed to limit the number of buyers as we needed to look after our repeat clients.”

Elders auctioneer Ross Milne said the sale of the Primeline Maternals saw more than 900 rams sold in about four hours, which reflected “how engaged the audience was”.

Mr Milne, who shared the rostrum with Paul Dooley, described the sale as “extraordinary”.

“It would arguably be the biggest grossing single vendor seedstock sale in Australia for either beef or sheep,” Mr Milne said.

“We knew it would be very strong, but it seems nothing is a surprise in the industry at the moment.”

Mr Milne said the result reflected the popularity of the Lambpro brand and its performance, and COVID-19 travel restrictions had not affected the result at all.

“They had really good videos of all the sheep and many of the buyers would not have seen the sheep they bought but were confident enough to make selection with the videos and the data,” Mr Milne said.

“What makes this result even more extraordinary is that it was achieved for ram lambs.”

Mr Bull said clients who sold Primeline Maternal sheep were achieving $50 more than other

composites, which may have influenced what they were prepared to pay.

“There were also three processors bidding, buying for their own breeding programs including

Thomas Foods International who were a major buyer,” Mr Bull said.

“We sold almost 300 more Primeline Maternal rams this year and the averaged lifted, and I think we could have sold another 400.”
