More sheep price records broken at Bendigo as quality lambs shine

Sheep price records continue to tumble at Bendigo, as quality ewes and ewe lambs continue to impress bidders — including at the latest sale held at the central Victorian centre.

Windermere producer Chris Powell paid a new record price of $444 for a pen of first-cross ewe lambs at Bendigo today. He is pictured with Nutrien Ballarat agent Paul Constable. Picture: Jenny Kelly.

FIRST-cross ewe lambs stole the show at Bendigo today, setting a new record and easily surpassing anything else seen this spring.

The price of $444 was for a pen of 172 March-April drop lambs, bred by Geoff and Di Allen of Melrose.

They were bought by Windermere producer Chris Powell.

Ewe quality was outstanding, with a new price high set for a pen of one-and-a-half-year-old first-cross ewes making $448, just one bid higher than the result at Bendigo on Wednesday this week.

However, these were the headline sales in a market that did show some changes on bidding patterns seen earlier this week.

Most of the one and a half-year-old ewes sold $20-$30 easier than Wednesday’s sale, making returns from $360-$420.

Ewe lamb quality was outstanding.
