Goat milk infant formula manufacturer Bubs Australia has expanded its cow’s milk powder range to aim at whole family nutrition.

And it already has orders for its family milk powder range from East Africa and Pacific Islands, among its more traditional focus of China, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore.

Like many infant formula manufacturers, Bubs Australia took a hit from China closing its market about two years ago, coupled with a loss of Chinese students and visitors to Australia being blocked last year as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Bubs Australia has made sales of its new range of cow's milk powders into East Africa and the Pacific Island, among its more traditional markets of China and Vietnam.

Two weeks ago, Bubs founder and chief executive officer Kristy Carr announced the company was back on track, with a doubling in sales in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period in 2020-21.

The company responded by launching its goat milk products into the US through supermarket chain Walmart and online platform Amazon.

Today, Ms Carr announced the range of dow’s milk powders for the whole family.

“The extension of Bubs portfolio into Family Nutrition allows Bubs to tap into the US$15.7 billion (A$20.9 billion) global cow’s milk powder market, leveraging our extensive dairy expertise and manufacturing capabilities,” she said.

“The established familiarity of Bubs as a trusted nutrition brand will be stretched to cater for the whole family, providing a broader opportunity to introduce consumers in the Mother and Baby segment to Bubs premium quality brand attributes.

“Although Bubs infant nutrition range will continue to be our core margin driver, Bubs family nutrition facilitates new market access points to introduce Bubs® brand to a significantly larger and growing category with less complex regulatory compliance than infant formula, expanding jurisdiction reach and catalysing value creation across the business.”

The expansion into East Africa is believed to be the company’s first foray into that market.

The new orders are scheduled to be shipped by then end of December.
