In just 10 years D&S Resources has established itself as a leading provider of engineering and construction services to some of the biggest players in the state’s mining industry. But the family-run company isn’t resting on its laurels, eyeing new emerging markets as part of an ambitious growth and diversification plan.
The company has reported an impressive 479 per cent average revenue growth over the past three financial years to be named South Australia’s BDO Fast Mover for 2025.
The awards, which were announced at an event last Friday afternoon, recognise the 25 fastest-growing companies in the state, along with additional awards for fastest employment growth, excellence in business, and “elevated success”.
D&S was established by Eduardo Donoso and sons Andres and Eddie in 2015, and has evolved from a small scale consultancy to a diversified structural, mechanical and piping engineering company delivering projects across Australia.
When construction manager Joe Kelly joined the business as a partner in 2021, it made a major push into mining construction projects, and has completed work for major players including BHP, Iluka Resources, Boss Energy and Heathgate Resources.
Mr (Andres) Donoso said that while the mining industry remained the bedrock of the company’s success, the opening of a new workshop in Pooraka a couple of years ago had enabled it to service other fast-growing industries.
“We’ve gone from a small team of less than 12 people to over 100 at one point,” he said.
“When you’re the new kid on the block, especially on a mine site … if you deliver and you do what you say you’re going to do on time and within budget, and you’re reliable and trustworthy, they’ll help you because your success is their success.
“Through that mantra we’ve been able to continue to win work and we’ve moved from small projects to major projects and small contracts to major contracts now.
“Mining’s always been our bread and butter but through the workshop we’ve managed to diversify – we’ve moved into manufacturing for the energy industry … and on the piping side, it’s really allowed us to get into water and more into mining on different sites like borefields and underground piping.”
Mr Donoso said the company was now exploring opportunities in the burgeoning defence industry, adding to its work in the mining, water, energy and infrastructure sectors.
Prospect-based Best Solar & Batteries came in second in the BDO Fast Movers program, with average revenue growth of 292 per cent, followed by Tonsley-based cybersecurity firm Secure State consultants, which notched up third spot while also taking out the Fastest Employment Growth award.
Last year’s BDO Fast Movers winner Bunnik Tours was given a “Sustained Success” award after reporting average revenue growth of 754 per cent. Entrants are ineligible to claim the grand prize two years in a row.
Hello Sarnie took out the Excellence in Business award while Warrina Homes won the Elevated Success award for businesses with annual turnover of $5m or more, delivering average revenue growth of 72 per cent.
BDO South Australia business services partner Daniella Biagi congratulated all of this year’s winners.
“We are honoured to recognise the success of these businesses and support their ongoing growth for many more years to come,” she said.
“Instilling a sense of pride among South Australians and showcasing the remarkable achievements of our local businesses is central to our vision.”
Prizes for first place include a fully paid place in the Australian Centre for Business Growth’s award-winning programs, a brand strategy consultation and report with Floodlight Content, and $6000 cash thanks to BDO.
