Strong commodity prices, record-low interest rates and improved seasonal conditions are behind a record grab for Australian farmland.

AgJournal's annual investigation into who owns Australia’s farms shows the big are getting bigger in 2021.

The biggest landholder, by value, is the Canadian PSP Investments, which have rapidly put together a portfolio of more than $4 billion worth of land and water assets over the past five years. Other major players include Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets which has more than $3 billion invested through three agriculture-specific funds.

The biggest landholder by size is Australian billionaire Gina Rinehart, who has amassed about 10 million hectares through her Hancock Agriculture and S Kidman and Co ventures.

But it is not just the corporates vying for productive land, as this list of more than 1000 farms and their owners shows.
