From pole position to chequered flag

Kostecki crosses the line to claim race win

Kostecki wins 2024 Bathurst 1000

Brodie Kostecki and teammate Todd Hazelwood are the 2024 Bathurst 1000 champions after narrowly beating Broc Feeney and Jamie Whincup for the title.

Kostecki started on pole position and was dominant throughout the 161-lap race, before a late safety car narrowed the gap between him and Feeney to just one second with 27 laps remaining.

But Kostecki was able to keep control at the safety car restart, and had the upper-hand over Feeney all the way to the chequered flag to claim the biggest victory of his career at the Mount Panorama track after six hours of racing.

Kostecki in box seat as race nears end

Brodie Kostecki just has to keep his driving clean for these final five laps to claim his first Bathurst 1000 victory.

The gap between him and Broc Feeney back in second has widened to 1.4 seconds, but we could always see a late race safety car.

10 laps to go at Mount Panorama

We’re officially down to the final 10 laps of the race.

It’s almost neck-and-neck between Brodie Kostecki and Broc Feeney, with 1.2 seconds between them. Little by little, Kostecki and Feeney have widened the gap between them and the rest of the drivers after the safety car came out for Matt Payne’s crash earlier.

With just 10 laps left, every incremental move matters and adds up in precious time. Feeney has been able to put a buffer of 5.6 seconds between him and Will Brown in third. Here’s where the drivers stand:

  1. Brodie Kostecki/Todd Hazelwood (#1 Chiko Chevrolet)
  2. Broc Feeney/Jamie Whincup (#88 Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet)
  3. Will Brown/Scott Pye (#87 Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet)
  4. Cam Waters/James Moffat (#6 Monster Energy Ford Mustang)
  5. Chaz Mostert/Lee Holdsworth (#25 Mobil 1 Optus Ford Mustang)

It’s now a question of whether the drivers at the top of the leaderboard can maintain their positions, or if there will be an unpredicted shake-up before the chequered flag.

Final 20 laps of Bathurst 2024

We have 20 laps remaining in this race and the margins are staying steady at the top of leaderboard.

There’s some very aggressive racing going on though – I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw another collision before the chequered flag.

  1. Brodie Kostecki/Todd Hazelwood (#1 Chiko Chevrolet)

  2. Broc Feeney/Jamie Whincup (#88 Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet) +0.865

  3. Will Brown/Scott Pye (#87 Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet) +2.025

  4. Cam Waters/James Moffat (#6 Monster Energy Ford) +2.663

  5. Chaz Mostert/Lee Holdsworth (#25 Mobil 1 Optus Ford +0.573
