Two Yangebup grandparents have recounted the moment a man armed with “sai” weapons, dressed like a ninja, allegedly attacked them on New Year’s Eve.
Teresa Urbaniak told 9 News Perth she was out walking her dogs about 10.30pm on Tuesday when her neighbour Ak Mohammad Hanif Bin Wahab allegedly struck.
The 64-year-old ran back to her Sandpiper Loop home, where her alleged attacker followed. Urbaniak’s 62-year-old husband then tackled him to the ground and performed a citizen’s arrest.
In footage taken by Teresa during the alleged home invasion, Wahab can allegedly be seen on the ground, struggling, while she tells her husband “he could kill me”, and asks Wahab, “What’s wrong with you?”
Police arrived shortly after and arrested the man, whose partner had allegedly also intervened and had to be told to back off.
“I was really scared that he was going to kill me,” Teresa told 9 News Perth, alleging she was punched on the chin and scratched on her chest.
The alleged intruder was also allegedly carrying a range of “sai” pointed stabbing weapons and throwing stars, also known as shuriken.
Teresa said she has struggled since the ordeal.
“I still feel scared and I could not sleep. I see it all the time,” she said.
Piotr Ubaniak was also injured and traumatised, he says.
“I was fighting for my life because I saw these long things,” he said.
“I didn’t know if he’s got a gun.”
Wahab, 35, who lives a few houses away from the couple, has appeared twice in Fremantle Magistrates Court.
He was charged with aggravated home burglary, assault and carrying weapons. It’s believed he will make an application for bail when he next appears in court on Monday.
