Fancy being neighbours with Mark McGowan? It’ll cost you

By Sarah Brookes

If you have deep pockets, you could be neighbours with some of the most powerful names in Perth.

A premium clifftop address along millionaire’s row is Perth’s most expensive listed rental.

The house along Saunders Street in Mosman Park is listed for $2800 a week and includes six bedrooms and four bathrooms, a saltwater swimming pool, and palatial adults’ retreat.

Flanked by the Swan River and just minutes from Cottesloe and Leighton beaches, the home features 550 square metres of under-roof area, including balconies and terraces to enjoy the view.

The rent is more than three times the median listing price for rentals in the area, which go for about $850 per week according to REIWA figures.

And it is nearly five times the median to secure a rental in Perth.

Perth’s second-most expensive rental – located a stone’s throw from Premier Mark McGowan’s home – is a three-storey mansion along Rockingham Beach Road.

Listed for $2500 a week, the opulent home features five king-size bedrooms, six hotel-style bathrooms and direct lift access to all floors.

It comes fully furnished and also includes a gym and full-size tennis court with commercial lighting to play in the evenings.

The bond alone will set you back $10,000.

Tied for Perth’s second-most expensive rental is this two-storey Applecross home that has just been renovated.

The Dunkley Avenue house features four bedrooms, three bathrooms and river views from almost every room.

CoreLogic Australia’s head of research, Eliza Owen, said Perth rentals were up 13.2 per cent in the year to April, the highest in the nation.

In the past month gross rental yields are up 4.9 per cent.

“Across the combined capital cities, rent values rose 11.7 per cent in the past 12 months, which was the highest annual increase on record,” she said.

In the week ending May 7, there were 5950 properties listed for rent in Perth, down nearly 21 per cent over the year. The vacancy rate is just 0.6 per cent and median rent is $583 per week.
