Three wines made by women – for everyone
There are plenty of ways to support women in wine. New online bottle shop Sip 'Er is a good place to start. Young go-getters Jenny Cheng and Bree Nicholls launched their Sydney-based retail business in November. It stocks beer, wine, spirits, seltzers, sake and pre-mixed cocktails made by female-led companies. Go, you good things. Or seek out your favourite gals and buy direct. These three producers have fierce women at the helm. Raise a glass to them, their creations and more diversity across the industry.
Allevare Wines 2021 Vino Novello Shiraz
Mornington Peninsula, Vic, $32
West Gippsland-based winemakers Alysha Moscatt and Lucy Kendall make easy-drinking, minimal-intervention wines and champion marginalised groups within the wine industry through curated Joans of Marc wine packs (the International Women's Day pack is a doozy). This is a perky, crunchy take on shiraz – light, bright, textural and spicy. Chill it a little and let the good times roll. 12.5 per cent alcohol.

Willunga 100 2021 Grenache Rosé
McLaren Vale, SA, $25
Winemaker Skye Salter is not one for the limelight (she'd rather focus on making the good stuff) but she deserves a serious amount of praise. Salter works alongside the small Willunga 100 team to produce this beauty. This crisp, dry rosé looks delicate (an apricot hue so pale it's barely detectable) but the palate is punchy, with bags of mouth-watering acid. 12.5 per cent alcohol.

Vasse Felix 2020 Chardonnay
Margaret River, WA, $44
Virginia Willcock is a legend of the wine game. She clocked up experience all over the globe before taking on the Vasse Felix chief winemaker role in 2006, where she has bagged an impressive collection of awards and accolades for her winemaking. Sip a glass of this classic Margaret River chardonnay and you'll see why. It is an Audrey Hepburn of a wine: utterly elegant and poised yet a little bit wild and arresting, thanks to beautiful natural acidity. 13 per cent alcohol.
