Bachelor finale: Blake Garvey proposes to winner Sam Frost
By Annabel Ross
Victorian financial consultant Sam Frost, 25, has won series two of The Bachelor - and become engaged to the titular star.
In a dramatic finale, the bachelor, 31-year-old Perth real estate agent Blake Garvey, proposed to Frost at the culmination of the episode. Garvey presented Frost with an engagement ring in South Africa, where the final two episodes of the show were filmed.
In the finale, Frost and runner-up, 27-year-old Queensland fashion designer Lisa Hyde, met with Garvey's mother and aunt for separate Q and A sessions before embarking on their final dates with Garvey.
Hyde went hot-air ballooning with Garvey; he took Frost on an animal safari. He maintained that he had strong feelings for both women right up until the end, but Frost was an early favourite with both home audiences and the bookmakers.
Frost triumphed over 29 other hopefuls to win the bachelor's affections, but a degree of mystery remains around the couple's fate - all interviews with Garvey, Frost and Hyde that were scheduled for tomorrow are reported to have been cancelled by Network Ten.
The winner of the 2013 series, Anna Heinrich, is still happily ensconced in a relationship with the inaugural Australian bachelor Tim Robards, according to social media.
Time will tell if Thursday's happy television ending translates into lasting, real-life love for Garvey and Frost.
