Jessica Zrinski was a ray of sunshine with a big heart who loved singing, dancing and spending time with her family.
Her aunt and uncle, Robyn and Vlad Zrinski, said she was very close with her parents, brother and sister, was looking forward to becoming an aunt, and she loved music so much that she starred in a video clip when she was younger.
Whenever there were disagreements in the family, Jessica would tell them all to “stop fighting and love each other”.
“There was no one Jessica didn’t like,” Robyn said.
Robyn struggles to talk about Jessica without crying. She misses her niece, but she also laments the hurdles Jessica faced and will never have the opportunity to overcome.
While Jessica appeared outwardly confident, she masked deeper struggles by self-medicating.
Robyn and Vlad couldn’t pinpoint when she started taking drugs, but her descent into full-blown methamphetamine addiction was obvious over a number of years.
Her spiral was devastating. She transformed into someone her family barely recognised.
Jessica made friends with people who stole from her, used her and deceived her. She was known to police and exhibited behaviour synonymous with ice addiction – she became aggressive, violent, and suffered serious mental health issues.
“Jessica just wanted to be liked by everybody, and was very vulnerable,” Robyn said.
“People took advantage of her. She was just a really sweet girl and it’s sad what’s happened to her. It’s just awful.”
Jessica’s family want people to know, that while had her struggles, she shouldn’t be forgotten. They won’t stop looking for her.
“She was a beautiful girl with so many prospects and so much love to give,” Robyn said.
“People were just drawn to her.”
Jessica’s father Darko Zrinski said: “My Jessica, you are always in my heart. My home is now just a house. It feels so empty without your laughter echoing throughout.”
Robyn said Vlad has a memory of Jessica as a child, swirling around wearing makeup and a pink dress.
“We can just kind of see her out there, a bit like a fairy dancing in the forest,” Robyn said.
“That’s how we think of her, and that gives us a little bit of peace.”
