Two hospitalised after ‘serious’ highway crash

Two people have been hospitalised after a multiple car crash on a Southern highway which is now clear.

LATEST: 5PM: TASMANIA POLICE are investigating a serious two-vehicle crash at Forcett this morning that saw a 27-year-old woman from Geilston Bay, and a 53-year-old woman from

Primrose Sands taken to Royal Hobart Hospital.

Both women were the drivers of their respective vehicles.

Just before 8am, emergency services were called to the crash on the Arthur Highway near the Inala Road Junction.

A Tasmania Police statement confirmed the Forensic Services and Crash Investigation Services attended the scene and have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Initial indications suggest that weather conditions were a contributing factor.

Acting Inspector Duffey would like to remind motorists to slow down, drive to the

conditions and be safe on Tasmanian roads.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash cam footage which could assist crash

investigators, is asked to contact Sergeant Sharmaine Ward at Sorell Police Station on

131 444.

EARLIER: 1.10PM: THE crash blocking the Arthur Hwy is now clear. Traffic flow has returned to normal.

A press conference will be held at 2.30pm with the latest information on the multiple car crash.

EARLIER: 10.07AM: TWO people have been transported to Royal Hobart Hospital following a “serious” multiple car crash on the Arthur Hwy.

Major traffic delays are still expected until at least midday, with police remaining on scene at Forcett, between Torenius Timber and Sugar Loaf Rd.

LA TEST, 9.24AM: DELAYS are expected on the Arthur Hwy until at least noon after a “serious” multiple car crash.

Police remain on the scene at Forcett between Torenius Timber and Sugar Loaf Rd. Crash Investigation Services are also on scene.

A statement from Tasmania Police said major traffic delays are anticipated in the area until around midday.

Motorists have been asked to avoid the area until the scene is cleared.

EARLIER, 8.20AM: POLICE and emergency services are attending a crash involving multiple vehicles on the Arthur Hwy at Forcett between Torenius Timber and Sugarloaf Rd.

Traffic is being diverted via Sugarloaf Rd and Old Forcett Rd.

Motorists are advised that delays are expected.
