A MIDDLETON couple has briefly fronted court over a chainsaw attack in which police allege they wounded a man.

Neville Perryman, 56, and Lisa Ann Perryman, 53, appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Wednesday, each charged with wounding, assault, common assault and being the owner of a dog that attacks a person.

It was the couple’s first court appearance over the matter, which allegedly occurred in their neighbourhood on November 17 last year.

They asked for an adjournment and have not yet entered a plea to the charges.

Magistrate Robert Webster extended their police bail and also made interim restraint orders in favour of the two alleged victims.

He ordered the Perrymans return to court on May 11.

According to court documents, police allege that the Perrymans wounded Horace Reginald Peter Monshing by cutting his left forearm and right hand with a chainsaw.

They are also jointly charged with unlawfully assaulting Anne Sturrock Monshing by moving towards her while holding an operating chainsaw in a threatening manner, causing her to believe she would be assaulted.

Mr and Mrs Perryman, according to the documents, are also alleged to have committed common assault by punching Mr Monshing to the face.

They are finally jointly charged with being owners of a dog that attacks a person by owning a blue heeler cross dog that attacked Mr Monshing.

Mrs Perryman also faces the additional charge of driving while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit after she was allegedly nabbed driving in her neighbourhood on the same date with a breath reading of 0.144.

The Mercury previously reported that a 59-year-old man was rushed to the Royal Hobart Hospital with significant wounds to his arm, reportedly in a serious condition.

Middleton is a quiet town about 66km south of Hobart at the southern end of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, with a population of about 250 residents.
