MELISSA Oates, who fatally struck her boyfriend Jari Wise during a dangerous driving episode at Huonville last year, has been punished for two more crimes against him.

Oates, 35, is currently serving an eight-month prison sentence – handed down by the Supreme Court of Tasmania – after pleading guilty to three charges relating to the February 28 tragedy.

Now, Oates has also been convicted in the Hobart Magistrates Court of two more crimes against Mr Wise – common assault and injuring property.

She pleaded guilty to those crimes and was sentenced in a hearing last month to one month’s jail, to begin on May 20 this year.

It is understood that month will be served concurrently with her existing sentence.

Oates had pleaded not guilty to 116 counts of breaching a police family violence order – but those charges were dismissed after prosecutors tendered no evidence.

According to court documents witnessed by the Mercury when Oates was first charged, the common assault and injuring property charges occurred when Oates grabbed Mr Wise’s clothing and cut it, and damaged his T-shirt, sloppy joe and skate shoes.

Oates was not held legally responsible for causing Mr Wise’s death, but pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court to dangerous driving, drink driving, and failing to stop and assist in an accident.

On the night in question, Oates was drink driving, wasn’t wearing her glasses, and was speeding at 110km/h.
