UPDATE: Tasmania Police have confirmed there was no explosive threat at an Old Main Road property in Bridgewater earlier this morning.
“It has been determined that the item did not contain any explosive material,” a statement read.
“Police remain on the scene completing a search of the shipping container as a precaution.”

UPDATE: POLICE say the old explosive device at Bridgewater has been safely detonated.
EARLIER: TASMANIA Police’s bomb squad is on scene at Bridgewater after reports of an old explosive device in a shipping container.
A police spokeswoman confirmed police were tipped off to the device.
“As a precaution, the adjacent properties will be evacuated to allow the safe, controlled detonation by the Bomb Response Group,” she said.
“Police would like to thank the local community for their understanding and patience.
“Tasmania is the only jurisdiction with a permanent firearms amnesty – this allows people with unregistered, unwanted firearms, ammunition or explosives to hand them in without fear of prosecution.”
