Tyler John Mayne charged with 22 offences after Hadspen arrest

Police claim a Tasmanian man took part in a statewide crime spree before he was arrested at Hadspen earlier this week while allegedly attempting to hit officers with his car.

A Tasmanian man who was dramatically arrested near Launceston earlier this week after allegedly aiming his vehicle at a pair of police officers, the denouement of what Tasmania Police say was a statewide crime spree, has been remanded in custody.

New Norfolk man Tyler John Mayne, 29, formerly of Launceston, has been charged with 22 offences after allegedly committing offences at New Norfolk, Invermay and Hadspen in the month of July.

Hadspen was brought to a standstill on Tuesday during Mr Mayne’s dramatic arrest, where police allege in court documents the defendant drove at two officers trying to effect his arrest in broad daylight.

Mr Mayne was charged with aggravated assault, resisting a police officer by “struggling violently” and driving while disqualified by a court order.

The day prior, Monday, Mr Mayne is alleged to have driven while disqualified and evaded police at Gordon St, Invermay.

Meanwhile, Mr Mayne also faces 17 charges, including 11 of common assault, relating to alleged conduct against a New Norfolk woman.

Between July 13 – 16, Mr Mayne is alleged to have assaulted the woman nearly a dozen times, including by choking her, dragging her by the hair, depriving her of liberty, hitting her in the head and placing his hands over her airways.

Police claim Mr Mayne also stole the woman’s CCTV storage device worth $500.

In Launceston Magistrates Court on Thursday, Mr Mayne pleaded not guilty to all 22 charges.

The five charges of July 18–19 were adjourned to September 14, while the 17 remaining charges were sent to Hobart Magistrates Court on September 9 for mention.
