A Tasmania Police Sergeant has appeared in court after being arrested on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, the officer appeared in the docks of the Hobart Magistrates Court before Chief Magistrate Catherine Geason.

Ms Geason made an interim family violence order, precluding the Sergeant from entering the proximity of a woman’s home.

As part of the order, he must not stalk or threaten the woman.

A second order, a six-month restraint order, was made against the Sergeant, barring him from contacting, abusing or assaulting a man.

Tasmania Police, in a statement released prior to the court appearance, said the restraint order related to another police officer.

The force also revealed the Sergeant had been stood down from duties pending the court process.

He has not been charged with any criminal charges, and was released from custody after Wednesday’s court hearing.

He will return to court on June 13.
