Moment car crosses lane into oncoming traffic

Police are hunting down the driver of a car towing a trailer who swerved into oncoming traffic on a major highway.

On Monday, July 10 about 4pm, a white Subaru towing a trailer was travelling westbound on the Bass Hwy at Somerset before the driver overtook a van and crossed the double white line lane near Cape View Nursery.

Footage released by Tasmania Police shows a narrowly avoided head on crash with an oncoming car, with the van in the westbound lane swerving to avoid the driver re-entering the lane.

Police are seeking to identify the driver of the vehicle and ask anyone with further information to contact Wynyard Police on 6477 7267 or Crime Stoppers Tasmania anonymously.
