A Hobart hospitality hotspot has been broken into and vandalised overnight, leaving its devastated owners to pick up the pieces.
Pilgrim Coffee on Hobart’s Liverpool St was ‘burgled and trashed’ on Monday night about 6.45pm, owner Will Priestley wrote on Facebook on Monday.
“We have some bad news, we won’t be open tomorrow. Pilgrim has been burgled and they trashed the place while they were at it. Sad times but fingers crossed that we see you Wednesday,” he wrote.
Mr Priestley told the Mercury that the offender “even went as far to urinate on the floors and pour detergent through the electronics”.
“We have a team of eight staff here today doing a deep clean. The person that did it created quite a bit of mess,” he said.
The cafe owner said he believes the offender was doing it for “cheap thrills”.
“They left the $30,000 coffee machines alone, but stole the float, electronics, soft drinks and alcohol. It’s really not ideal,” he said.
Tasmania Police said a 39-year-old woman was charged over the alleged burglary.
She was charged with burglary, stealing and destroying property.
Police will allege the woman entered the venue around 6:45pm on Monday.
Patrolling officers arrested the woman a short distance from the scene.
She is expected to front Hobart Magistrates Court today.
