The owner of Launceston’s Richardson’s Harley-Davidson has lost his driver’s licence after being busted drink driving on his motorcycle.
Simon Marian Hrycyszyn, 67, pleaded guilty on August 13 in the Launceston Magistrates Court to one count of driving while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit.
Police prosecutor Giuliano Ercole said that on February 16, 2023, at 11pm, Hrycyszyn was riding his black Harley-Davidson motorcycle at Prospect when he lost traction and fell off.
Hrycyszyn was taken to the Launceston General Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries, including swelling to his body and his head.
During this time, a blood-alcohol test was taken, which returned a reading of 0.091 grams of alcohol.
Defence lawyer Mathew Williams said that Hrycyszyn had been to a funeral for a close friend earlier in the day and had consumed a couple of beers “in celebration of his friend’s life”.
Mr Williams said Hrycyszyn had left for home at 11pm on a journey less than 1km in length when he was hit by a kangaroo and lost control.
“Mr Hrycyszyn instructed me that he required surgery for a head injury but has otherwise recovered from the accident,” he said.
He asked that Magistrate Sharon Cure only impose the minimum sentence as Hrycyszyn had no prior convictions under the Road Safety Act.
Ms Cure fined Hrycyszyn $400, disqualified him from driving for three months and ordered for the conviction to be recorded.
