A Tasmanian real estate agent has pleaded guilty to seven domestic violence charges, including placing a nail under his wife’s tyre in an attempt to pop it and swerving his vehicle into her path as she drove towards him.

Edwards Windsor agent Michael Joseph Schofield, 56, of Berriedale, appeared in Hobart Magistrates Court on Friday.

Schofield previously pleaded guilty to charges of breaching a police family violence order (PFVO) and attempting to destroy property.

On Friday, he pleaded guilty to five additional charges: common assault, obstructing the path of another driver, failing to keep left of an oncoming vehicle, breaching bail and breaching a PFVO.

Court documents reveal the first two offences were committed on April 10 this year.

The attempt to destroy property charge relates to Schofield attempting to sabotage his wife’s work vehicle by placing a “modified nail” under her front wheel.

Further, more serious offending was committed on August 2.

On Berriedale Rd at Glenorchy, Schofield “swerved his vehicle directly into the path of a vehicle” being driven by his wife, thereby committing common assault. The other four charges from this day all arise from the same course of action.

Schofield’s defence lawyer Fabiano Cangelosi asked the court for and was granted a deferred sentence date for his client.

This was due to the need for an endocrinologist’s report to be produced.

Schofield will be sentenced on February 28 next year.

According to his professional profile, Schofield has worked for more than two decades at Edwards Windsor, which is based at Brisbane St in the Hobart CBD.

“Michael sees his role as ‘helping people get to where they want to be’ and his success and longevity in the role have allowed him to develop the necessary personal skills and relationships to achieve this for his clients,” it says.
