A MAN has briefly faced court charged with causing the death of a Hobart teenager by negligent driving.

Michael Vinko Jandric, 43, appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Tuesday, following a fatal crash at Brighton on November 27 last year.

Tasmania Police at the time said the three-car crash occurred at the intersection of Elderslie Road and Rodbourne Road, when a grey Mitsubishi allegedly hit a white Toyota Corolla.

As a result of the impact, police said, the Corolla rolled onto its side and struck a vehicle waiting to turn onto Elderslie Road.

The 18-year-old male driver of the Corolla, a resident from the nearby area, was declared deceased at the scene.

The four occupants of the other vehicles were treated for minor injuries.

Mr Jandric, who is on bail, has been charged with causing the death of another person by negligent driving and driving without due care and attention.

He has not yet entered a plea to the charges.

On Tuesday, his lawyer said the matter was likely to proceed to a hearing – which would run for an estimated two hours.

The court heard there was no calendar availability yet to set a hearing date.

Mr Jandric will return to court for another administrative hearing on November 9.

The name of the man who passed away at the scene has not yet been released.
