A woman has been jailed for encouraging her husband to unleash a “spiteful, cruel and malicious” chainsaw attack on an innocent neighbour.

Lisa Anne Perryman, 56, threatened the victim and egged her husband on to “kill him, Neville, kill him” during the horrific attack at Middleton in November 2020.

Perryman was alone found guilty over the attack by a Supreme Court of Tasmania jury in April this year, with her husband having died by suicide before the matter reached trial.

She did not wield the chainsaw herself, but was jointly charged with her husband due to her active encouragement.

While sentencing on Friday, Justice Stephen Estcourt noted the Perrymans owned a savage dog that became the subject of a dispute between them and their neighbours, Horace Reginald Peter Monshing and his wife.

After a night of drinking to excess, the Perrymans drove up their neighbours’ driveway, taking a chainsaw with them.

While their dog attacked Mr Monshing, Neville Perryman cut him with the chainsaw and punched him repeatedly to the face, while Lisa Perryman “actively encouraged him”.

Justice Estcourt said as Neville swung the chainsaw at Mr Monshing’s head saying, “I’m going to cut your head off”.

During the vicious attack, Lisa Perryman yelled out “I want the dog to rip his throat out”.

“I want you dead. I want your wife dead. I want your daughter dead and I want your granddaughter dead, and I know where to find her,” she told the victim.

“I’ll have to get my brothers to finish the job … we will do what it takes to get rid of you and your wife and I’ll get my brothers to help me.”

Justice Estcourt said Mr Monshing suffered significant injuries to his right hand, exposing the bone of a finger, and his left forearm, with the muscle exposed – and was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for surgery.

He also suffered dog bites to both feet, legs, and a large gash to his right heel – and couldn’t walk properly for almost six months.

Lisa Perryman was found guilty of two counts of committing an act intended to cause bodily harm and one count of assault contrary.

She was jailed for three years, with a non-parole period of 18 months.
