It remains to be seen whether the trial of an alleged Tasmanian conman facing 24 charges of fraud, dishonesty and identity theft will go ahead, a court has heard.

Legana man Kane Scott Dallow, 41, has been charged with 24 offences, to which he has previously pleaded not guilty to.

They include four counts of personation – identity theft – one each of forgery and uttering, five of defrauding a creditor, 12 of attempting to defraud a creditor, and one of perverting justice.

The offences are alleged by the Crown to have occurred between May 28, 2018 and March 24, 2021.

The Crown alleges Dallow stole the identities of four people, between May 28, 2018 and April 15, 2019, and used them to apply for a series of credit cards and loans.

Institutions allegedly targeted include Latitude Finance, Macquarie Bank, Citibank, American Express and Macquarie Cards.

His alleged victims were Kaleb Lee, Michael James Witheford, Shane David Summers and Rosemary Marie Harwood.

The forgery and uttering counts relate to Dallow allegedly producing a forged Launceston NAB bank certificate and presenting it to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority.

On March 24 last year, Dallow is alleged to have perverted justice by falsifying an affidavit in order to “dissuade a judge from making an order for an interlocutory injunction” in advance of a scheduled hearing.

Launceston Supreme Court heard on Friday said the case had been delayed by the voluminous allegations contained within three separate files.

Crown Prosecutor Peter Sherriff told the court a draft indictment had been prepared relating to the largest of the three files, which contains about 20 counts, but not for the other two files.

Defence lawyer Olivia Jenkins said there were a “number of matters to work through” in order to progress the matter.

Should the matters be resolved, Dallow may possibly plead to some or all of the charges before the court.

Both parties agreed to an adjournment to October 21.

“We are hoping to progress the matters at least in some part by then,” Mr Sherriff said.
