A Tasmanian tech whiz who has held a series of roles in the sector, including a six-month stint providing a training program to high school students, has been charged with three offences relating to his alleged download and possession of child exploitation material.

Huonville man Christopher John Standen, 36, appeared in Hobart Magistrates Court on Friday for a first mention of the charges.

He is charged with possessing child exploitation material and possessing/controlling child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service (Cth offence), both of which police allege occurred at his Huonville address on October 17, 2019.

Mr Standen is also charged with using a carriage service to access child abuse material (Cth offence). This is alleged to have occurred between May 19, 2016, and October 14, 2019.

Mr Standen was not required to enter pleas to the charges. His matters were adjourned to January 17 next year.
