Twitter had a field day when Telstra suffered another national outage due to a fire

TELSTRA suffered yet another major outage yesterday. Frustrated customers channelled their fury into a good cause: merciless mockery.

IT WAS another day and another outage for Telstra customers.

On Thursday afternoon a fire in a Sydney exchange sparked a national Telstra outage - causing businesses across the country to come to a standstill, train lines to be shut down and flights delayed.

The outage also forced Telstra to shut down text messaging, after customers were inundated with texts from strangers.

Telstra CEO Andy Penn said the misdirected messages “extraordinarily unusual” event.

“I’ve never known that to happen before,” he said.

“Some SMS messages were corrupted, which resulted in potentially some of those going to the incorrect address.

“To safeguard our customers’ privacy, we closed the sms network down until we could reroute that and ensure the integrity of the messages.”

While some people didn’t receive random messages, they were quick to see the funny side.

Telstra took to Twitter announce the incident and offer updates on the restoration process, which the telco confirmed was complete on Thursday evening.

As expected the whole saga attracted some hilarious responses on social media.
