Oppo Find X9 Pro Australian review: Is this the best camera phone of 2025?
An incredible camera system, a battery that lasts for days, a super-quick display and plenty of processing power make this arguably the best Android phone of 2025.
An incredible camera system, a battery that lasts for days, a super-quick display and plenty of processing power make this arguably the best Android phone of 2025.
Oppo’s Find X9 Pro is a flagship beast to rival the best that Samsung, Google and Apple have produced this year.
Photo and video comparisons show this is a phone to match or beat the iPhone 17 Pro Max or Samsung Galaxy Ultra in most departments, with features to satisfy even professional photographers and vloggers.
The optional Oppo Hasselblad Teleconverter Kit, which costs $699, transforms the device into a camera that can rival the best DSLRs for travel, wildlife, people and pet portraits and even shooting the moon and stars.
We tested the Find X9 Pro, taking it on beach shoots, doing pet portraits and snapping a recent supermoon both at night and before dawn.
On our first outing, we took it to a local beach where there is an island about a kilometre away. With the 40x zoom option via the teleconverter, we could not only see waves crashing on the rocks but also trees and a sign.
Shooting up the beach, we could see people on the second patrol area, while shooting video we could see a man standing on the back of a boat zooming past.
Despite being high-quality glass and reasonably heavy, the teleconverter has great stabilisation, so even at maximum digital zoom, we were able to focus on a super moon (without a tripod) and pick up details previously unseen.
We were also able to capture portrait shots of nearby dogs, which can be very hard to shoot with a zoom lens given they are always on the move.
The camera quickly focuses on target, including the eyes of the dog.
The 50MP camera offers a zoom range from 0.6 (not quite as wide as the iPhone) to six times in the settings or 13.2 lossless (and up to 120x with digital), while the super-high-resolution 200MP camera has a three times optical zoom.
Given the higher resolution, the level of detail achievable with the 200MP camera is among the best we have seen.
One area where the camera has had mixed reviews is for selfies with some reporting poor performance in low light settings.
The sound recording also may not be as good as that of the latest flagship iPhone, which is very good.
In lower light settings, at full zoom, you definitely get more grainy shots, as you would expect.
Some reviews have also noted the photos coming from the normal photo mode are not as consistently good as those from the high resolution mode where your zoom options are more limited.
The Find X9 or X9 Pro are not just for professionals, however.
The camera setup and phone are easy to use for anyone who has used an iPhone or another Android, with many of the features feeling very familiar.
Its camera is perfect for shooting concerts, ballet or the opera, with an algorithm to enhance clarity when zooming up to 120x.
There’s even a ‘stage mode’ while shooting video to optimise contrast and sharpness and a four-microphone system with ‘sound focus’ to capture the singer’s voice while reducing ambient noise.
It also now offers LOG recording with ACES certification for professional colour grading.
The high-quality teleconverter, which is only available for the Find X9 Pro, transforms the phone into a 10x optical super-zoom, enabling up to 200x digital zoom for photos and 50x for video.
The Find X9 runs on the new MediaTek Dimensity 9500 3nm chip set that is extremely fast for everything from action camera and drone video footage editing to gaming.
But the phone’s biggest point of difference is the massive 7025mAh battery on the Find X9 and 7500mAh on Find X9 Pro.
The third-generation silicon-carbon battery has about 25 per cent more capacity than the flagship iPhone 16 Pro Max and is also supported by super-fast 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
You can also use it to reverse charge other devices such as earbuds.
Oppo says the new battery will retain more than 80 per cent of its capacity after five years.
The 6.59-inch Find X9 and 6.78-inch Find X9 Pro both feature bright 120Hz displays with up to 3600 nits peak brightness while there are great options to reduce eye strain.
For durability, the series has IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.
The new 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is the fastest and most reliable we have seen, even working with sweaty or oily fingers. It also has facial recognition.
Like an iPhone, it has an action button called a snap key that is customisable.
One function is called Mind Space where you can tap to recognise and save screen content, touch and hold to save audio and double-tap to open Mind Space. You can also use it to activate the torch, activate the camera, translate other languages or start an audio recording.
There’s also a button to activate the camera, take photos and slide to zoom in and out when shooting horizontally.
Running ColorOS 16, the Find X9 feels very much like using an iPhone. Using O+ Connect, users can manage files or control their Mac or PC directly from their phone.
The teleconverter kit that offers a 3.28x telephoto/230mm focal length, comes with a strong fibre magnetic case for the phone, which you slide the lens extension onto.
You then have to go into the camera settings to change to the teleconverter setting as it is not instantly recognised.
The Kepler lens structure features 13 all-glass spherical lens elements in three groups, along with three extra-low dispersion glass elements, to eliminate phase and chromatic aberrations and ensure true colours.
There is also a lens bracket for extra stability for more difficult shoots.
