AN ACCOMMODATION provider in a tiny North West town is offering a free escape at her holiday cabin to Tasmanians who need a break but missed out on Make Yourself At Home vouchers.

Owner of Joe’s Bookie Shed Neradine Tisaj said she hoped her offer would spur on others in the sector to do the same.

“A lot of Airbnbs are doing well as Tasmanians who usually travel overseas or interstate holiday at home. But some people have never been on a holiday and I want to see some of those who usually miss out experience a bit of luxury.”

On Monday, the government’s $7.5 million Make Yourself at Home campaign travel voucher offer sold out in just 40 minutes.

Individuals could claim $100 towards accommodation at a Tasmanian destination and $50 towards an experience at a tourist attraction.

Families were eligible for up to $550 towards an intrastate getaway.

Ms Tisaj said her small luxury cabin in Waratah – the Tasmanian town famous for having a waterfall in its main street – was also just 45 minutes from Cradle Mountain.

A breast cancer survivor, Ms Tisaj said she understood what it was like to go through a hard time and need a holiday.

“When I saw people had missed out on the tourism travel vouchers, because they couldn’t afford to fork out the money first, or didn’t have access to the internet, I felt compelled to help out,” she said.

“I know what it’s like to really need a break, I’d like people to nominate someone they know is doing it tough and deserves a luxury weekend away – it could be their mum, aunty or a neighbour who couldn’t normally afford a holiday.

“My cleaner also wants to support the cause and is giving her time for free, we both want to give back where we can.”

Joe’s Bookie Shed is well-known in the area with it bright pink exterior, sitting across the road from Waratah’s waterfall.

It has a large bathtub in front of a wood fire and is very popular with Millennials who go hiking at Cradle Mountain.

It usually rents for $200-$250 per night.

To nominate someone worthy of a break email Ms Tisaj has asked people to email her at neradine@bigpond.com.

Guests must be over 18, no children and the sleeping arrangements are just one king bed.
