Under contract star Sam Darley will still be sighted in the TSL despite committing to a NSW team

A Facebook post from a former Glenorchy premiership player sent Richard Robinson’s phone into overdrive but the North Hobart coach has dismissed suggestions one of his stars is leaving

NORTH Hobart coach Richard Robinson has allayed fears one of the club’s biggest stars will not be lining up in the TSL next season.

Robinson’s phone went into overdrive yesterday morning when former Glenorchy premiership player Daniel Muir — who is now playing coach for Leeton in NSW — posted on the Crows’ Facebook page that Sam Darley had committed to the side for 2020.

Darley, who is based in Melbourne, returned to the Demons this season, signing a two year deal after AFL stints with Greater Western Sydney and Western Bulldogs as well as captaining Richmond’s VFL team.

However it appears Darley will not miss any State League commitments with the Demons, playing only for Leeton when North Hobart has a bye.

“If Sam’s body permits, he will play games for them when we have the bye,” Robinson said.

“He has some friends up there and wants to have a kick with them.”

The sticking point may come when the transfer deadline of June 30 approaches, with Darley then locked into one club for the remainder of the season.

Muir, who was part of Glenorchy’s 2016 premiership team, said he sounded Darley out when he heard he had moved back to Melbourne, and is hopeful the gun midfielder will play at least three or four games.

“I’m not sure how many games he will play, we have to wait until the rosters come up and negotiate when they have their weeks off,” Muir said.

“I’ve just dealt with Sam so far, I wouldn’t mind having a chat with ‘Bear’ [Robinson] and seeing what the go is.

“Getting someone of the calibre of Sam [to] commit certainly helps us with recruiting and gets a bit of excitement back around Leeton, it was a flat year last year after a few good seasons.”
