THE State League’s most decorated player will pull on the black and white stripes for his beloved Glenorchy for the last time this weekend.
Jaye Bowden, who will go down as one of Tasmanian football’s finest ever products, will play his 244th and final match for the club against North Hobart on Sunday after announcing his retirement from the TSL.
It will bring to an end a 17 year association at KGV, which began as a teenager in the SFL Premier League and saw him evolve into one of the most destructive individuals in the state.
Three Alastair Lynch (league best and fairest) and Hudson (leading goalkicker) medals, nine TSL team of the year awards and the 2016 premiership are just some of the highlights on a glittering resume, which also boasts six club best and fairest awards and the 2007-08 SFL premierships.
He is the all time leading goal kicker in the TSL (524), and will leave a legacy which may never be matched for his versatility and ability to deliver in big moments.

“I feel really happy with pulling up stumps now, I am in a good place to do that,” Bowden said.
“I am not getting any younger, it is also just the commitment and time I feel you need to put in to play at this level, the travel, all that stuff has an effect on you.
“I have done it for so long, it is just time for something else.
“I have lifelong mates here, people who are involved with the footy club and the football club has always looked after me really well.”
Bowden will end his career on the same hallowed turf where it started, meaning he will miss Glenorchy’s final match of the season in Launceston.
And while he plans on running around at a lower level next year when the dust settled on his 2020 campaign, he has made no decisions on his next move.
“I debuted against North Hobart so it has probably gone a full circle and North Hobart is a ground that holds some special memories for me as well.
“To do it down south and have family and friends there, it was a no-brainer in the end.
“I will definitely have a kick, I haven’t really focused on it too much because I have known this is coming.”
