HE will go down as one of Glenorchy’s greatest ever products and Jaye Bowden is on the verge of another accolade — and joining rarefied air at the Pies.
Bowden, who has snaffled every individual award available in the State League throughout his glittering career, enters tomorrow’s clash against Clarence one goal away from booting his 500th major for the club.
It will put him alongside AFL legend Peter Hudson (577) as the only two players to reach the milestone.
Coach Paul Kennedy has only had the reins for one full season but it has been enough to glean exactly how good Bowden has been across the journey for not only Glenorchy, but Tasmanian football.

“When you think about that milestone of 500 goals, it is extraordinary, the next best is Danny Ling at 383,” Kennedy said. “This is a moment that needs to be trumpeted, just what Jaye has achieved in his career is out of this world.
“With all the awards and accolades he has won, he has set a benchmark that probably isn’t going to be matched, ever. The amount of best and fairests, goal kicking awards, all the stuff he has done.
“I’m definitely the wrong person to ask [about where Bowden sits in football greats], chatting to people around, the consensus I get is if you just consider what has been done in Tasmania, he is right at the top.
“What Huddo did, the amount of goals he kicked, in five seasons, we won’t see that again, but take him out of the equation I think in terms of Tasmanian football, Jaye is right at the top.”
