Live stream: Sorell v Lindisfarne, SFL, Round 6

While the guest appearance of former Hawk Paul Puopolo was a huge success for Sorell, it wasn’t enough to deny Dylan Johns and Lindisfarne an impressive victory. Relive all the action.

Replay: SFL Round 6 - Sorell v Lindisfarne (Seniors)

The good news first for Sorell: Guest player Paul Puopolo kicked three goals in an impressive all-round performance in his one-off SFL Seniors appearance.

The bad news, well, they couldn’t stop Dylan Johns from making a massive impact as Lindisfarne kicked clear late on to grab a 23-point win - 13.10 (88) to 9.11 (65).

Johns kicked five goals, his biggest haul of the season to date, while Ryan Martin and Sam Adams landed three each as the Two Blues stayed unbeaten with their fifth win a row.

Sorell stayed in the contest right until the final 10 minutes. They led by two points at quarter time, trailled by five at halftime and by the same margin at three quarter time.

A goal from Jacob Smith early in the final quarter actually gave them a one-pont lead before Adams, Martin and Johns went to work.

Puopolo joins former Brisbane enforcer Mitch Robinson, who will play a TSL match for Lauderdale against the Tigers on Saturday, and three-time premiership Tiger Jack Riewoldt, who will play for Clarence against Lauderdale next week, as former AFL stars playing in Tasmania over the next two weekends.

A member of Hawthorn’s premiership three-peat from 2013-15 with stars like Buddy Franklin, Luke Hodge, Shaun Burgoyne and Cyril Riloi, Puopolo will be a hands-on ‘import’ on the day.

The 196-game 185-goal former Hawk will host a junior clinic before the game, play for the Eagles and then be keynote speaker at the club’s sports night from 7pm.

Sorell president Robbie Iles said it was an exciting time for the club.

“The opportunity to see a three-time AFL premiership player in your home town is going to be pretty special, and he’s probably still playing good footy, so it’s going to be very exciting,” Iles said.

Puopolo, 36, will not be the only star in Sorell’s forward line.

“He (Puopolo) may not get to be full-forward after Jacob Sawford kicked 12 goals last weekend,” Iles said.

“The boys are really pumped.

“We had the most players on the track on Tuesday than we’ve had all year, so the anticipation is pretty high.

“Everyone is looking forward to meeting him and playing alongside.”

As well as Sawford’s career-best dozen, teammate Tom Bennett had a personal haul of seven goals as Sorell’s 192-point win over Hobart shot the Eagles into fourth.

Lindisfarne, meanwhile, sits second.

Sorell has also thrown out the welcome mat for Lindisfarne’s juniors for the Puopolo clinic.

“He will be at the club from noon on Saturday for a clinic with the juniors and we’ve invited Lindisfarne to bring their juniors along as well if they’d like to,” Iles said.

In other round six SFL games, Huonville Lions host Hobart at Huonville Oval, Claremont plays Brighton at Abbotsfield Park, and Cygnet plays Dodges Ferry at Cygnet.
