SFLW2 live stream: University skipper Annie Lord relishing leading Bows into battle against Hutchins

Hutchins scored 30 points before Uni got on the scoreboard. It didn’t get any better for the Bows once that burden was lifted either as this battle finished in a one-sided result. Relive all the action.

This was quite a way to lose an unbeaten record.

Sitting in fourth spot after opening their 2024 SFLW2 campaign with three straight wins, University succumbed to a 49-1 defeat to Hutchins on Saturday.

The margin could have been much, much worse if Hutchins had kicked straighter. They landed 13 behinds.

Mimosa Middleton-Miller kicked two goals for the victors who have now climbed into the top four.

While she may only be three games into the job, University captain Annie Lord says it’s a role she’s loving every minute of.

A long-time member of the Bows women’s side, Lord took on the role as skipper this season and will lead her side when they face Hutchins on Saturday for the Lifeline Shield on Saturday morning.

Stepping into a role she’s never thought she’d be in, Lord said leading a club that she’s proud to be a part of is an honor not lost on her.

“I’ve been in leadership for five years and then to finally take up captaincy is quite exciting,” Lord said.

“It feels like a long time coming, in the sense of waiting in the wings and being supportive of whoever’s been sitting above me. Every captain prior to me was very well deserving.

“When I first started playing footy, I wouldn’t have thought that that’s where I’d be.

“I love doing it. I love leading the girls and I’m very proud to be a Bows player, so it’s a real honor and I take it quite seriously.”

Currently sitting third on the SFLW2 ladder, University is fresh off a 19-point win over Port last week in a game where Lord believes they were able to master their new style of play.

“In our last win, I think we’ve demonstrated how quickly we’ve been able to take on a new style of play that our coaches have been building for us,” she said.

Annie Lord leads her side out to action.

“We have some real structure across the ground that we haven’t had in the past and the team have taken that on in three games. So I think that was sort of the difference between us and Cygnet in our last game.

“It just showed how strong we can be with that game play and I think that was really impressive by the girls to be able to take that on so quickly.”
