CYGNET WIND BACK THE CLOCK

Cygnet will go back to the future in Saturday’s clash with Dodges Ferry in the SFL Community League showcasing the club’s history by wearing a heritage guernsey.

2010 the last time the Kermandie Robins senior guernsey was worn before the club disbanded with Port skipper Hayley Kluga excited to wear the guernsey her father wore 20 years ago.

“It’s extra special to be playing at Kermandie in the Kermandie jumpers, it’s good to bring the heritage alive again,” Kluga said.

“It means a lot to me growing up at Kermandie, watching dad play footy down there, especially being able to captain the side this weekend, it means a lot more to me than it probably means to the next person.

“Dad knows, he is pretty excited about it.”

The Port sit in third spot, flying just below the radar of Claremont (first) and Hutchins (second).

Kluga said it is exactly where they want to be.

“I felt like we’ve just slowly been climbing the ladder, keeping humble and just going under the radar,” Kluga said.

“It’s a good position to be in, not having the hot spot on you.

“We feel like they (Sharks) have nothing to lose and everything to prove, so we expect them to come out hard and leave nothing on the table.

“This one’s pretty important trying to get our percentage up, that’s where we’re struggling at the moment, definitely important to put a couple of goals on the board early.”

Sharks’ Kaitlin Salter said her side will be looking to ruin Port’s party with an upset win.

“We always assume that people are going to underestimate us a little bit, being that we are sort of at the bottom of the ladder,” Salter said.

“We’ve got a lot to prove so we’re always going to put on a strong contest and make them work for it.”

There will be plenty of action at the Kermandie with the women starting at 10am and finishing with the men’s at 2pm.
