Beware the stalking Tiger as Kingborough flex SFLW premiership credentials

While it appeared a race in two, a third club has stamped its authority of the SFLW Premier League. Here’s why rivals are wary.

The SFLW Premier League been blown wide open.

After Kingborough’s win over Clarence on Saturday, Clarence and North Hobart are separated by percentage with the Tigers four points behind with a game in hand.

The Demons and the Roos have been the two standouts this season but the massive upset win by the Tigers now has opened up the premiership race.

Demons’ gun Madi Lamb said her side won’t be taking the Tigers lightly.

“I definitely think the weather went in their favour on the weekend, they are a contested side compared to Clarence who really like to use their run,” Lamb said.

“So I think they took advantage of the weather and ran with it and they just keep getting better and better every week.

“They have got a great coach and I definitely think we have got our work cut out for them but our girls have been working really hard so I know we will be right.”

The Demons took care of business on Saturday, knocking off cellar dwellers Glenorchy with rep star Grace White the only multiple goal scorer.

It very well could have been a bigger blow out with the Demons kicking 6.16 (52) to 1.3 (9).

“It was a pretty contested and physical game, Glenorchy always bring that sort of physicality,” Lamb said.

“We had a chat before the game and we knew we had to meet that physicality that they brought, bring our tackle pressure but we also didn’t want to stem away from our game style too much and still use our runners as that’s our strengths.

“We started off a bit slow in the first quarter but as we went on, we adapted to the conditions pretty well and realised we weren’t going to be able to kick it too far so we had to use our runners and we ended up playing pretty well as a team.

“I think despite the weather conditions our team probably played one of our better games, we held our structure really well and everyone played their role.”
