Sam Siggins confident Lauderdale can add to playing list in search of elusive TSL flag

Fresh off winning a third Alastair Lynch medal, Lauderdale star Sam Siggins is hoping the Bombers can lure a favourite son home in search of an elusive TSL premiership.

Fresh off winning a third Alastair Lynch medal as the TSL’s best player, Lauderdale star Sam Siggins is confident the Bombers can add to their list in the off-season and challenge for next year’s premiership.

Siggins won his second consecutive Alastair Lynch medal on Monday night, and his third in four seasons, to further enhance his standing as one of Tasmanian football’s modern greats.

But while incredibly honoured to add another individual accolade to his ever-growing trophy cabinet, Siggins said the desire to achieve team success still remained.

“I’m extremely grateful to have won it,” Siggins said.

“To have won three is a real honour and something that’s really special but my full focus is on being able to win a premiership with Lauderdale in the TSL.”

Step one of that mission has already been identified with the Bombers keen to add to their playing list and bridge the gap between their experienced and younger heads.

That could come in the form of a number of favourite sons returning to ‘The Tip’ with multiple time grand final player Thor Boscott and former Essendon ruckman Andrew Phillips both topping the list.

Boscott, who left the Bombers at the end of 2019 for Cygnet, guided the Port to a remarkable come-from-behind victory in last Saturday’s SFL grand final over Huonville Lions before announcing post-game that he was leaving Cygnet.

While Boscott said he was undecided what his playing future looks like, Siggins said there is no doubt they would have discussions with the two-time Gorringe-Martyn over the next few weeks.

“Thor is one of my good mates and we speak a fair bit,” Siggins said.

“We’d love to get Thor (back). He has been a big part of our football club over the last 10 years so to get him back would be unbelievable but I’m not too sure what he is thinking.

“The opportunity to come back and create something pretty special next year would be pretty enticing for him (I think).

“He has a presence and that is something we do think we need. I’ll certainly be contacting him over the next few days once he catches up on some sleep.”

Bombers coach Allen Christensen has previously said the club would be keen to lure Phillips back to Lauderdale with the big man set to return to Tasmania any day now after announcing his retirement from the AFL back in August.

Lauderdale have already announced the re-signing of skipper Josh McGuinness along with veterans Bryce Walsh and Michael Blackburn for the final year of the state league competition.
