One of Tasmania’s best young boxers says he is ready to showcase his talents to a new audience ahead of his first professional fight outside of the state this weekend.

Hobart’s Sab Wells, a member of the Tazzy Az Boxing Crew, is set to compete on the Big Time Boxing event in Melbourne this Saturday in what will be his fourth pro bout.

Currently holding a 3-0 record, Wells will face Sadudee Srimuenag in a four-round contest with the six-time Australian amateur champion coming off a dominating win in Launceston back in April.

Now just days out from the biggest bout of his young career, Wells feels it’s now time to test himself outside of his comfort zone.

“I love fighting at home, fighting in Tassie and I’ve done it three times now, but it’s time to show myself off on the mainland,” Wells said.

“The shows in Melbourne and the viewpoints and opportunities are massive so I’m very ready to show a new audience my talent.”

Admitting in his own words he was, at times, a lazy amateur, Wells’ believes his hard work ethic has allowed him to begin his professional career with an undefeated record.

“I don’t come from a family or a background where people are super successful so where I am now is amazing,” he said.

“I’ve never really been handed anything and that’s how I want it, you know. I don’t want to be handed anything.

“I feel like I got as far as I could with my talent and I was a bit lazy as an amateur for a long time. That’s really taught me to knuckle down and put in the work to get that step up and get a little bit further.”
