NRL SuperCoach POD watch: 10 players who could make the difference for your team

OUR 2014 SuperCoach champion Dave Von Kotze takes a look at 10 POD players who could make the difference for your side this season.

SUPERCOACHES will be working overtime this week crunching numbers to ensure that they set their teams up to make as much money as possible over the next four rounds.

Most of us will be cleaning out injured players or replacing failing cheapies for those that will be more profitable while others will be focusing on any possible plan to get James Tedesco in as quickly as possible.

Here are a few players that have sparked a bit of interest over the first few rounds with low ownership to get the ball rolling on a week that will see the ‘reverse trade’ button working in overdrive.

1 — Moses Mbye (112 avg.) 4.7 per cent ownership

Unbelievable start to the season packed full of attacking stats. A win/win situation for owners, either he makes upwards of $100,000 over the next few rounds and then can be moved on or he continues this form and you have a halfback who will cover you for two of the three big bye rounds and possibly for the remainder of the season like Ben Hunt so notoriously did in 2014.

2 — Josh Hodgson (52.5 avg.) 1.8 per cent ownership

Has played eighty minutes for the first two rounds and played well when he moved into the halves to close out the game against the Roosters. Hodgson is ineligible for Origin and also plays two of the three representative bye rounds.

3 — Greg Bird (85 avg.) 2.5 per cent ownership

Followed up his round one score of 111 with another spirited performance of 59 in a well-beaten Titans side. Bird will more than likely play Origin and history has shown us that he is prone to injury and suspension, so probably one to avoid.

4 — Cameron Munster (53.5 avg.) 1.6 per cent ownership

Not the highest average by any means but returned to fullback in round two after Billy Slater was a late withdrawal and returned to the superb form that saw him finish last season off as one of the highest averaging CTW/FLB’s. Munster currently comes with a high price tag of $391,300 but should see an extended return to fullback with many reports suggesting Slater could spend another frustrating stint on the sidelines.

5 — Matt Gillett (76 avg.) 5.9 per cent ownership

Scored a try against the Warriors on his way to another impressive game posting 83 points. A cunning selection for those who started the season with him but potential owners need to weigh up whether he is worth the trade considering that he is virtually a certainty to play for Queensland this year. A possible saving grace exists in the fact that the Broncos players who gain Origin selection will only miss three games.

6 — Ethan Lowe (93.5 avg.) 1.9 per cent ownership

Two tries with line-breaks in two games has seen Ethan Lowe soar to a two game average of 93.5. A definite POD at less than two per cent ownership but it is unlikely that he will be able to maintain these attacking stats.

7 — Tyrone Peachey (52.5 avg.) 1.6 per cent ownership

Averaged 53 points per game last year so starts the season with quite a hefty price tag of $339,700, however, he did play the full game in round two for 59 points and has the ability to explode when on form. One to keep an eye on if he maintains these high minutes.

8 — Bryson Goodwin (95 avg.) 1.8 per cent ownership

After absolutely rubbishing Goodwin on the SuperCoach Countdown show last Thursday, he complimented his round one score of 74 with an enormous 116 points against the Knights. As an added bonus, he has taken up the goalkicking duties while Adam Reynolds recovers from injury and will make massive dollars over the next few rounds, especially if the Rabbitohs continue to score points at will.

9 — Josh Papalii (75.5 avg.) 5.1 per cent ownership

Cracked the ton with 101 points against the Roosters after crossing for two tries. Has played State of Origin in the past but will play rounds 12 and 18 if not selected for Queensland. Papalii was brilliant in attack but be careful not to chase last week’s points with this one.

10 — Anthony Milford (70.5 avg.) 16.3 per cent ownership

Will drop out of the POD range over the next month because he is one of the most dangerous players with the ball in his hand and he showed a taste of what he is capable of against the Warriors with 90 points. Milford is currently on Queensland’s naughty list and won’t play Origin this year which makes him a fair dinkum must-have.
